If my dog could talk, I’m pretty sure he’d go on and on about food and the chipmunks in the backyard. But, what if he could also let me know when he wasn’t feeling well? Believe it or not, smart collar devices are doing just that by giving our pets a voice.

Li-ion Batteries Overcome Renewable Energy Uncertainty

Renewable energy (RE) promises much, but it has yet to make a significant impact on world demand. Variability and uncertainty make it impossible to guarantee RE resources will be available when peak demand occurs. However, pilot operations have demonstrated that energy storage using Li-ion batteries could provide a solution to RE variability and uncertainty by smoothing the differences between supply and demand.

Nikola Tesla: Genius or charlatan? Maybe a little bit of both, but there is no disputing that Nikola Tesla, who would 162 years old on July 10th if he were alive today, had a flair for showmanship and a major impact on the advancement of applied electrical technologies. But what if Tesla were still alive today at a time when many of his inventions and ideas have been developed beyond even his wildest imagination? We decided to find out what electrical engineers thought....

Capacitor datasheets are notorious for omitting performance details, typically only including individual performance parameters in each graph or only including "typical" performance of combined parameters. KEMET’s capacitor parameter simulator, called K-SIM, solves this problem by combining multiple parameters into a single graph.

Hydropower generation isn’t a new green energy concept, considering we’ve been damming rivers in the US and harnessing its coursing power since the 1800s and in Europe and other places long before that. The world’s oceans, though, contain a huge amount of energy.

Lithium, Cobalt, and Lithium-Cobalt Prices, Demand Drive EVs

by
Steven Keeping
The price of Lithium has tripled since 2016 as electric vehicle batteries compete with mobile consumer electronics for the material. But the escalating price, driven by a threat of shortage of supply, is unlikely to dampen EV demand. Cobalt, another vital ingredient of Li-ion batteries, is another matter, and researchers are working hard to find cheaper alternatives, including Lithium-cobalt.

Inverters, connectors, and panels may be the hardware that delivers solar energy to homeowners and utility giants alike, but it’s the tax breaks that often justify installing solar energy in the first place. How will the late 2017 US tax reforms affect the solar industry as a whole?
