In early June I had the opportunity to attend the 2014 Lightfair International trade show held at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This show was an opportunity for me to see the latest developments in LED technologies and applications on display. It also allows me to connect with the people and firms that are making this happen.
It is typical at a trade show to see an extensive number of product and application breakthroughs. However, some companies go out of their way to focus on the betterment of mankind and our environment, where great obstacles exist. A few of these new developments are truly illuminating. One such company that I became acquainted with at the show is Nokero.
Nokero (short for “No Kerosene”) designs ‘The World’s Only Solar Light Bulb’. Since 2010, Nokero has developed leading solar technologies that integrate high efficiency photovoltaic (PV) cells and LED lights into the traditional light bulb shape. Nokero does this in order to meet the lighting needs of billions of people who do not have access to electricity. The company desires to replace kerosene lamps and paraffin candles all around the world by making a solar light bulb that charges up during the day and lights the night when the sun sets all at a price point that provides an economic savings for all users. Price points for their solar light bulb are below $10.
Nokero: Solar Light Bulb
Nokero has partnered with Seoul Semiconductor’s bright LED technology to provide high-efficacy lighting solutions worldwide. Nokero chose to use Seoul Semiconductors 5630c LEDs, Series: STW8Q14C due to their affordability and high efficacy. From outdoor recreation to third world development, Seoul Semiconductors LEDs provide maximum brightness for Nokero’s solar lights in many scenarios.
Nokero and Seoul Semiconductor are helping the world by enabling people of limited economic means obtain more illumination at a lower total cost. They are inspired to helping economically vulnerable people lead a life that results in greater human flourishing.
