Superstores

You have Sam’s and Costco superstores for groceries and everyday items. You have superstores for home improvement; Lowes and Home Depot quickly come to mind. You even have one on the internet, the almighty Amazon. In fact, I recently visited the world’s biggest superstore for sporting goods…Scheels All Sports (Scheels).

One weekend my daughter called and asked, “What are you up to?” I responded, “Nothing.” She wondered if her mom and I wanted to meet her at Scheel’s to check it out. I said, “What is Scheel’s?” She said, “Dad, trust me, you are going to want to come. It is a superstore for sporting goods equipment.”

Well, let me tell you it is a retail adventure. Their stores included attractions such as a large aquarium near the entranceway, arcade games, and an indoor Ferris wheel. These attractions are all part of their retail experience. Each department section was loaded with lots of products of every conceivable variety. It literally has everything you could ever want. At a place like Scheel’s, one can get whatever they want related to sporting goods.

Engineering Content

But what about for engineering content to support design and prototype development? Well, Molex has set out to do just this very thing. Molex makes a connected world possible by enabling technology that transforms the future and improves lives. Molex offers a full range of connectivity products, services, and solutions for markets that include data communications, medical, industrial, automotive, and consumer electronics.

How has Molex done this with technical content?

Molex, in partnership with Mouser Electronics, has created technical content hubs for engineering content. A technical content hub is similar to how bicycle hubs help propel a bike because both are at the core of advancement and performance (Figure 1). Bicycle hubs connect both wheels to the bike's frame, allowing it to move forward with minimal friction, optimizing the bicycle's performance. Similarly, a technical content hub provides the latest relevant technical application and technology information to help design engineers optimize their designs in less time and requiring less effort.

Content Hubs

If you are an engineer, you are probably inundated with data. It is hard to sort through the clutter and shift through the priorities to quickly get down to the information you need. Content hubs help. They are a way of organizing data that is not based upon chronology and the latest updates, where relevance is not considered or taken into account. As a matter of fact, older information may be more relevant.

Content hubs put thought and care into the organization of the data so that it may be more easily and quickly extracted by potential users. What is necessary is to present data to users to help curate a collection of content in a manner that offers them relevance to a specific topic or category that the customer and end-users are interested in. Molex and Mouser have teamed up to create a Content Hub Home (Figure 2).

Maybe you want to learn about specific applications like Industrial IoT (IIoT). Molex and Mouser have created a digital think tank devoted to IIoT. This field offers boundless opportunity for engineering’s blend of logic and imagination. Explore the products and technical insights shaping the future of connected, automated manufacturing.

Are you into Automotive applications? Molex provides superior connection systems for tomorrow’s vehicles. Molex is an automotive solutions partner that develops and enables technology that meets ever-changing customer connectivity needs. Solutions range from standard sealed and unsealed products to power and signal harnesses for the powertrain and in-car entertainment.

Perhaps you want you to look at information in the form of a specific type of content. If so, then check out:

Conclusion

Molex is connecting engineers to technical content to support design and prototype development. By connecting technical information by way of content hubs and by enabling access to technology from point A to point B, Molex is making a connected world possible that transforms the future and improves lives. Come and explore this new superstore of engineering content. I think you'll be surprised by the amount of content inside as I was that day at Scheels.
