Texas Instruments bq25896EVM-664 Complete Charger Evaluation Module

Texas Instruments bq25896EVM-664 Complete Charger Evaluation Module (EVM) is a complete charger module for evaluating the bq25896. The bq25896 is a highly-integrated switch-mode battery charge management and system power path management device for one Li-Ion and Li-polymer battery. This device can be used in a wide range of smartphone and tablet applications. The Texas Instruments bq25896EVM-664 requires the USB-Based PC Interface Board EV2300 or EV2400 for the I2C interface.

Required Equipment

  • Power supplies
    • Power supply #1 (PS#1) capable of supplying 5V at 1A is required
      • While this device can handle larger voltage and current, it is not necessary for this procedure
  • Load
    • Load #1 (4-quadrant supply, constant voltage < 4.5V)
      • A 0–20V/0–5A, > 30W system, DC electronic load and setting as constant voltage load mode
      • Or Kepco load: BOP 20–5M, DC 0 to ±20V, 0 to ±5A (or higher)
    • Load #2 – Use with Boost Mode
      • PMID to GND load, 10Ω, 5W or greater
  • Meters
    • Six Fluke 75 multimeters, (equivalent or better)
    • Or four equivalent voltage meters and two equivalent current meters
    • Current meters must be capable of measuring 5A+ current
  • Computer
    • Needs at least one USB port and a USB cable
    • bq2589xEVM evaluation software must be properly installed
    • USB-to-GPIO Communication Kit (EV2300 or EV2400 USB-based PC interface board)
