Mouser Electronics and MISD Education Foundation Team Up to Support NASA In-Flight STEM Presentation for Local Students
May 8, 2025 - Mouser Electronics, Inc., the New Product Introduction (NPI) leader™ empowering innovation, is pleased to announce its continued support for the Mansfield Independent School District (MISD) STEM programming in Mansfield, Texas. Earlier this week, students from STEM schools across the district enjoyed the amazing opportunity to connect with astronauts Nichole Ayers of NASA and Takuya Onishi of JAXA who answered questions relating to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) from aboard the International Space Station.
The NASA In-Flight STEM Downlink, made possible in part by a Mouser-funded grant from the MISD Education Foundation, is an innovative science program that gives students the rare opportunity to engage with astronauts aboard the International Space Station for a 20-minute question-and-answer session. Downlinks are facilitated by the Johnson Space Center Office of STEM Engagement and utilize the unique experience of human spaceflight to promote and enhance STEM education.
"At Mouser, we have always strived to encourage curiosity and education in young people," said Kevin Hess, Mouser Senior Vice President of Marketing. "By supporting STEM education, we hope to instill a passion for science, technology, engineering or math in our future mathematicians, engineers and problem solvers. We are very excited to be able to help make this incredible opportunity possible for local students."
"Linking these MISD learners directly to astronauts aboard the space station provides memorable and authentic experiences to inspire our youth to dream big,” said Victoria Webster, MISD STEM Director. "We greatly appreciate Mouser’s ongoing support for our STEM programming. Innovative educational activities like these show our learners the infinite possibilities, and in this case, out-of-this-world opportunities.”
Mouser supports the MISD Education Foundation by funding annual grants for local teachers to provide engaging opportunities for students, particularly to enhance STEM education. In previous years, Mouser has supported MISD through funding grants for the Jerry Knight STEM Academy, sponsoring a FAB Lab at Frontier STEM Academy, expanding makerspaces in MISD's high school libraries, and providing robotics kits to help students develop essential skills.
The entire 20-minute Q&A session can be watched on NASA STEM's YouTube channel, at https://www.youtube.com/live/UCRFmvqIaH4
